Berkut Nariya

Born of the stars to serve The Scholar, now free to serve herself.

Brevis historia.

General Information

Berkut is much older than she seems. Having been born long before the current times, she has seen much and learned much more, all in service to her master, Thaliak, the Scholar.Born from a star plucked from the heavens, Berkut is, in a very literal sense, divine. She possesses traits one would find in what most would call an "angel" such as flight and immortality. In the modern times, after the fall of the Garlean Empire, she has been given her freedom by Thaliak and now seeks to live life as she sees fit.

Birth from a Star

YearEvent
Fourth Astral EraIn what is known to most as the Fourth Astral Era, one of The Twelve known as Thaliak would pluck a star from the heavens above Aetheryis. He would embue this new being of light with a fraction of his power and give it a soul. Her form was much different from what it would become in the modern day, looking more like a common Elezen so as to better blend in with the local population. It is after a number of years that Berkut would begin to host a library disguised as a nunnery, forming a secret clade of scholars with the purpose of preserving knowledge no matter the cost.
5th Umbral EraThe Calamity of Ice forces the scholars of Berkut's clade to fracture, each seeking ways to survive the rapidly changing climate. Berkut, and those that followed her, migrate to The Black Shroud where they begin using their stores of knowledge to teach the survivors of the Calamity about magicks.
5th Umbral Era (Year 500)The sect of scholars that followed Berkut to The Black Shroud go on to form the Dark City of Mhach, though they would use their vast collection of knowledge to only strengthen their military might leading to the advent of Black Magic. When Berkut, whom had ruled from behind the scenes over the preceding centuries under numerous names and identities, saw the summoning of Voidsent by the Mhachi, she quickly set about collecting her knowledge and made for the Coerthan Highlands, leaving Mhach behind.
6th Astral EraIn her travels to the north east of the Aldenard, Berkut would reunite with the descendants of those whom chose to stay in Coerthas at the fracturing of Berkut's clade following the Calamity of Ice. This unification of scholars would travel further north east, crossing the Northern Empty and eventually form Sharlayan.
6th Astral Era (Year 1562)Satisfied with Sharlayan's growth, stability, and security, Berkut makes for Eorzea in order to ascertain its status and learn of what has happened since the diaspora of herself and those that would found Sharlayan with her. In the years leading up to her departure, she takes on the form that she has today and refers to it as her true form. It is on her travels that she personally bears witness to the Battle of Silvertear Skies.
7th Umbral Era (Incl. ARR)Following the 7th Umbral Calamity, Berkut returns to Ishgard in an attempt to assist with the restoration of its pre-calamity climate. It is here that she meets a young Miqo'te Seeker of the Sun stranded in Ishgard by the Calamity named Kaz'alkorrah Sumaresh. Berkut receives instructions from Thaliak to watch over Kaz, citing his thirst for knowledge and potential for great work. Berkut comes to the aid of Kaz'alkorrah, saving him from death in the Dravanian Hinterlands while the rest of the 19th Ranger Battalion falls to dragons and their cultists.
7th Astral Era (Heavensward)Berkut remains in Ishgard, assisting the present Scions of the Seventh Dawn from the shadows. In the final confrontation with Nidhogg, Berkut was seen with six wings of light and a scythe of flame, protecting civilians and wounded alike from Nidhogg's brood, some calling her an avatar of Halone. After the battle, Berkut departs from Ishgard having drawn too much attention to herself.
Events of StormbloodBerkut can be seen in and around Mor Dhona, working alongside NOAH to uncover the secrets and what information they can about the Crystal Tower.
Events of ShadowbringersBerkut cleanses Kaz'alkorrah of Voidsent taint that had been smothering his soul, nearly killing him before her intervention. Upon his revival, Berkut reveals the truth of herself to him, and in the process, grants Thaliak's Blessing upon him, bestowing upon him his signature wings of light. Meanwhile, the aforementioned Voidsent had gained a new host and seeks revenge upon the Miqo'te. Berkut serves alongside Kaz'alkorrah in a duel with the newly returned Voidsent. Separated from Kaz'alkorrah by minions of the Voidsent, she sees that Kaz'alkorrah has sacrificed his arm to deal the killing blow to the Voidsent, banishing it once and for all. His body, however, is maimed and destroyed. Following the orders of her master, she takes Kaz'alkorrah's soul to Thaliak, who grants him a new body. One of the same race of Berkut, a Viera of the Rava clan.
Events of EndwalkerAfter the return of Kaz'alkorrah to Eorzea, she accompanies the Eorzean Alliance to Garlemald at Kaz'alkorrah's request where she served as a scout and the head of a large spy ring. Later on, as the Final Days began again, Berkut would assist in the defense of Camp Broken Glass before leaving it in the capable hands of House Solholt under Kaz'alkorrah. Hearing the call of Thaliak, Berkut returns to Sharlayan and begins directly assisting the Scions of the Seventh dawn in preparations for the launching of the Ragnarok. With the prevention of The Final Days return, Thaliak commends Berkut on her service and grants her her freedom from his command. She disappears from the grand stage of events, seeking out the wonders and pleasures of the world as she sees fit.
